NYT TO PHARMA--FUGGEDABOUDIT

Reform for Raising Prices

Following its earlier report about record-breaking increases on drug prices, the NYT today editorializes that Congress should abandon its "deal" with the drug industry, which traded industry support for healthcare reform for $80 B in price cuts, mainly to Medicare and Medicaid.

The industry claims are all those we've heard in every other context in which its interest has needed defending--the price of new drug development, meeting FDA's regulatory demands, etc., etc..

How real was this "deal" ever? Is it time to fuggedaboudit?

  1. Dear Mr. Ponzi,
The administration’s Office of Management and Budget has reviewed your math, and I must say we like what we see. Our computations show that if you raise prices 9% and then reduce them by 8%, you will break even, the consumer will think they got a deal, and the government will have another feather in its cap.
I am happy to report, we have adopted your formula into our economic recovery plan for 2010. We are planning to quietly raise taxes by 10% before announcing a 5% across-the-board tax reduction. We hope to use the windfall to buy Congress an improved health plan.
    Very best regards,
    Sam

  12. I spoke with Ed.
He said that Pharmalot was supposed to be down for one hour yesterday morning for some repairs and they ran into some problems. If it isn't back online too late today he will post some items later. Otherwise he will resume in the morning.

  13. Seems phramalot.com is down again today -- first noticed it yesterday afternoon around 2 pm Eastern. The host is still not resolving as of 8:15 am Eastern this morning.

I wish Ed's tech team all the best -- but it may be later today before he's back up, since his techies are on Pacific schedules.

  25. sildenafil 150 mg is primarily responsible for erectile dysfunction. fildena 150 mg inhibits the action of PDE5. This trick works to relax the smooth muscles in the blood vessels. As well as causing a proper erection in sexual activity for a long time. Purchase any medication from the best online pharmacy store in the USA.
